Audience

The Kerikeri International Piano Competition offers its audiences a feast of music and entertainment.

The Competition begins with an opportunity to meet the judges and discuss all things musical. This is followed by the official Opening during which the 15 competitors are introduced and the draw for playing order in the first two rounds takes place. There is an opportunity to meet and mingle over light refreshments before the opening recital by two of the judges.

Round 1 of The Competition starts the following day. In addition to a classical sonata, contestants perform an êtude by Chopin, Rachmaninov or Scriabin, giving them the opportunity to show off their musical virtuosity.

Between the morning and afternoon sessions the audience may enjoy delicious food from the KIPC Café and a lunchtime talk by one of the three judges.

In Round 2 contestants perform their concert recital programme. At the conclusion of the third session the judges will announce the four finalists.

Sunday begins with the non-finalists’ Masterclass

The Final Recital Round in the afternoon culminates in the Prize Giving Ceremony and Closing Reception.
