The Kerikeri International Piano Competition offers its audiences a feast of music and entertainment.
The Competition begins with the official Opening during which the 15 competitors are introduced and the draw for playing order in the first two rounds takes place. There is an opportunity to meet and mingle over light refreshments before the opening recital by two of the judges.
The Thursday morning begins with an opportunity to meet the judges before Round 1 of The Competition begins. In addition to a classical sonata, contestants perform an êtude by Chopin, Rachmaninov or Scriabin, giving them the opportunity to show off their musical virtuosity.
Between the morning and afternoon sessions the audience may enjoy delicious food from the KIPC Café and a lunchtime talk in the Foyer Bar.
Please note that there are no evening sessions in the 2018 competition with the Round 1 and 2 sessions stretching over three days.
In Round 2 contestants perform their concert recital programme and at the conclusion of the third session the judges will announce the four finalists.
Sunday begins with the non-finalists’ Masterclass
The Final Recital Round on the Sunday afternoon culminates in the Prize Giving Ceremony and Closing Reception.
